Introduction / explanation
Hi, I'm Jon. I live in Copenhagen - or, Frederiksberg to be exact - and I have a hobby doing photography. Several kinds, but mostly, and most relevant to this, portraits & street portraits. You can see samples of my work in my showcase (password: Mellon).
Most of my subjects I find walking the streets & parks of Copenhagen, simply asking those I find interesting if I may photograph them. Or, actually, not so simply - I am very introvert by nature, so it took a long time and was a huge step for me finding the courage to do this.
But, I also see people that I would like to do a more dedicated shoot with. And I give them a card, inviting them to come to this page. And, that is probably why you are here - in that case I hope it was ok I asked you :)
FAQ
What types of portraits do you do?
I mostly do portraits outside, in natural light. I like to have open spaces behind my subject, preferably with some nature in the mix; so, I really likes park, or by the harbor.
I do have an idea of trying some studio work at some point, but I haven't gotten there yet.
I've looked at your showcase - do you only photograph women?
In principle, I photograph everybody. But when I look for subjects, I ask those I find interesting. And I can't deny - that is apparently mostly women.
I've looked at your gallery page - there are hardly any galleries?
When I photograph people, I do not publish the galleries or photos publicly, unless specifically asked to. So there are lot's of galleries, you just can't see them - just like a gallery of you won't be seen without a password.
I may ask if it is ok to use a photo for my showcase, or something else, but only after the subject has seen the photos, and it's totally fine to say no.
Why do you have a password on your Showcase gallery?!
My subjects privacy matters to me. Even if they have generously allowed me to use their photos of them, these days you never know where photos may end up, or what they are used for, So, I try to keep them away from bot scouring the net. Mostly on principle.
Do you have an Instagram account?
No, I don't do Instagram or Facebook, or other corporate social media. To be honest, I really, really dislike those companies. (I used to like Twitter, but not what it's become.) I do have an account on Pixelfed, but I hardly use it. I might start being more active on it, you never know.
Why did you give me your card?
When I give my card to somebody, it is because I find them interesting, and because I think I can make some beautiful or interesting photos with them as the subject. So, I hope I didn't offend you.
Why is this site in English?
I am Danish, and my first language is Danish. However, many I meet are non-Danish speaking - and as most Danes understand English, I found it easiest to keep this site in English. Men jeg taler og skriver gerne på dansk :)
Are you a creep?
I certainly hope not! I really try not to be...
But I am aware - very aware - that my approaching people, asking to photograph them, may seem intrusive. I am truly sorry if I have made you uncomfortable. I would really like to to hear from you, in that case. So I can learn, and hopefully do better another time.
